Hockridge rallies to aid
Hospice
Citroen C2R2cup front runner Andrew Hockridge will raise
money for the local Hospice in the week leading up to
the forthcoming Rally Isle of Man, when he joins forces
with one of his biggest customers from Douglas by
offering rally rides to lucky prize winners.
Andrew, along with his father Gareth, will be making
available both themselves and their cars to take six
lucky prize winners for a high speed passenger ride
around the pre event shakedown stage on Wednesday 16th
July. People wishing to enter can do so by purchasing a
ticket from hospice reception or from Agrimark Ltd.
Anyone entering will be contacted by telephone on
Tuesday evening and must be available on Wednesday
evening to take this opportunity of a lifetime. This
offer is only open to people over the age of 16.
Andrew: Earlier this year I contested the RBS Manx
International Rally, as a test for this weekend. Whilst
I was on the island I got talking to Billy Kewley from
Agrimark, whom I do business with. Billy does a great
deal for the local Hospice and was telling me that it
costs over three million pounds a year to run the
hospice, most of which is raised through donations. This
then gave us the idea to do our little bit and try and
put something back into the local community.
Welshman Andrew, who currently lies third in the C2R2cup
in his Gino’s Pizza Cheese and GRH Foods backed pocket
rocket, is joined by current championship leader Rich
Mills who will call the notes for him this weekend.
Andrew, in his first year in the championship, scored a
dominant victory on the opening event, the Pirelli
International Rally. He then suffered a minor blow when
a dislodged cattle grid punctured his fuel tank in the
opening stage of the Jim Clark International Rally. The
Geoff Jones Motorsport prepared C2 was able to return on
the second day to set a string of top 3 stage times and
pick up more useful points.
Joining his son on this years rally is Gareth Hockridge.
Gareth will be contesting the Trophy Rally, which
follows behind the main event, in a Geoff Jones
Motorsport run Subaru Impreza N10 and whilst it will be
the first time he has contested the rally, Gareth is
eagerly looking forward to the challenge. I was over
here in May looking after Andrew and just loved
everything about the island. So I decided that I
deserved a bit of a treat myself. We might be competing
in different rallies but I’ll still be comparing our
times, so hope the youngster doesn’t beat me by too
much!

People's Garden Opened
The garden at Hospice Isle of Man was
officially opened by Diarmuid Gavin on 11th January in
the presence of HE and Lady Haddacks. Diarmuid has
designed the garden to reflect the landscape and feel of
the Island. In the Spring and Summer months the gardens
will blossom into a myriad of colours. The principal
benefactor of the garden has requested that it be known
as the People's Garden to commemorate the fundraising
efforts and support given to the Hospice by the people
of the Isle of Man.
We've Moved
The Hospice relocated to its new purpose-built premises
on November 8th 2007. One of the patients commented "I
was a little bit worried about coming to the new
building as I thought it might be a bit like a hospital,
but it isn't. It's lovely, and warm, and homely. A
really beautiful place to be." We couldn't have put it
better ourselves. For further updates on 'Hospice Life'

community, Open days were held between October 12th and
19th and we had a fantastic response with over 3,000
people visiting the new premises.
President, Nadene Crowther, MBE, says "This is an
extremely important and exciting time in our
development, and we would be delighted to see as many
