Supporting Hospice Isle of Man
In 1988, the budget for a seven-bedded
Hospice, doctor, and two home care nurses was £350,000.
Throughout the years since, costs have risen by much
more than the rate of inflation, just keeping pace with
the growing demand for Hospice care. As more and more
patients were referred to Hospice, the clinical team had
to grow to sustain that service.
There has never been any question of diluting the
service to save cost. Many people ask, "How many beds do
you have"? The answer strictly speaking is 12 adults and
two children's, but the reply is: "Hospice cares for
over 350 patients at any one time, most at home, but
those who cannot be properly cared for at home may be
admitted, as in-patients within Hospice Isle of Man. The
cost is for a fully integrated care service.
Throughout the years, income has almost always balanced
expenditure. However, as a result of progressive
expansion, Hospice Isle of Man now needs approximately
£3 million per annum to fund its combined in-patient,
home care, and associated services. So, how is the money
raised?

Regular Giving
It is very important for family and friends to remember
special dates - Birthdays, Anniversaries. So why not set
up a Standing Order payment through your bank on these
dates? This can be for as little as £2.00 per month.
Legacies - Remembering Hospice Care in your Will
Over the years since 1983 many have remembered Hospice
Care in their Wills, the vast majority are a ‘thank you’
from patients for their special care, or from the
patients families.
We, in turn, are humbled and grateful for such
generosity and never forget the names of those who
remember us in their Will. There is a special Legacy
Book in Hospice where these names are entered and
recorded in perpetuity.
