National Gardens Scheme in our wonderful gardens

We are thrilled to be working with the National Gardens Scheme this year. Their event takes place on Sunday 26th June between noon and 4pm. Admission is £3 to view the beautiful gardens designed by Irish gardener Diarmuid Gavin in 2007. His wonderful work has been lovingly tendered and cared for under the auspices of the Support Services Department with chief gardener Chris Dugggan and his team of volunteers. A number of corporate organisations have also got involved in various projects over the years along with the Crossley family to create The Eva Rose Sensory Garden.

It is enjoyed by staff, volunteers and patients and is a tranquil haven so near to Douglas. In addition to the main garden there are a couple of individual gardens such as Jackie Corkhill Garden, The Eva Rose Sensory Garden for children and the Children’s Garden. A lovely afternoon wandering around all the lovely areas is promised.

In addition one of Hospice’s lovely volunteers, Linda Lewis and her ‘Rough Men’ will be serving strawberry tea for an additional cost. These afternoon delights will consist of freshly-picked strawberries, scones, cake and tea and coffee. In addition there will be some lovely plants for sale. Hospice’s garden is disabled friendly.

Two other gardens on the Island are taking part in the National Gardens Scheme open for charity. These are Red Roofs, Fistard in Port St Mary on Sunday 17th July and Milntown in Ramsey on Monday 12th September.

Island coordinator for NGS, Caroline Couch said: “I am delighted such a well-known charity such as Hospice has got involved this year.” “I am aware the Hospice has been on this site for just under nine years and the transformation by the team and others into a truly beautiful garden is to be applauded as well as visited.”
