Thank you for your interest in this year’s Hospice Summer School. We have a variety of area’s available that cover all aspects of our Hospice Clinical teams and our Hospice Professional Support Services teams and we hope that you can pick the one that you are passionate about.
Hospice IOM is a relatively small team and places are limited. You will be required to fill out the application form (link below) and have a phone interview with the Education Team.
At Hospice we aim not only to be the leaders in delivering palliative and end of life care but also the driving force behind the training and education that will enable hospice influenced care in the community and Island wide.

The work experience placements we are offering are:
Applicants must be 17 years old and above unless otherwise agreed by the education and senior clinical team.
1) AHP (Allied Health Professional) (3 places)
Working alongside our Therapies teams which include the Psychological support team, Complementary therapists, Lymphoedema Team, Creative arts therapy and rehabilitation team.
2) Nursing/Healthcare (6 places) (applicants must be 17 or over for this role)
Working alongside the teams from Rebecca House Children’s Hospice, Adult In-Patient Unit, Hospice @ Home team, Lymphoedema Team, Admiral Nurse team, Day Therapy team, Drop In sessions and our Clinical Nurse Specialist team (CNS).
3) Clinicians (applicants must be 17 or over for this role) (3 places)
You will shadow one of our Hospice Doctors or Nurse Consultant as well as a member of the Clinical Nurse Specialists team (CNS) and possibly attend Hospital and community visits.
You will have an opportunity to observe, have hands on participation (in a controlled workshop, not direct patient care) and see how hospice operates. This experience will give you valuable insight into what it’s like to work in a healthcare setting, helping you decide if it’s the right career path for you.
4) Catering (2 places)
Working with our catering team developing and creating nutritional food for your fellow students, patients, guests to Elaine Café and our hospice team. You will be working in an active kitchen environment using equipment, preparing food and assisting in the meal plans for the day.
5) Business & Retail Management (2 places)
Working with our retail teams in various locations around the island learning about the busy retail business, what exciting things we have planned for the future.
6) Income relationships team (2 places)
Working with our income relationships team, grants and trusts and digital marketing team. You will have and experience of the events we plan, our wonderful donors and our funding strategy and whilst seeing how we secure funding.
7) Professional Support Services (2 places)
You will have the opportunity to spend time with our other administration teams. This will include time with our volunteer office, our adult unit with our Ward Clerk, observe the People & Culture team and meet members of Data team. You will also meet with our CEO and learn what means leading an organisation like Hospice, making decisions and ensuring overall success.
Each successful student will be set objective homework to complete before attending summer school, these objectives will then be used as part of your placement experience, and you will be able to put elements into practice.
All our staff are DBS checked. We have 2 safeguarding leads and all staff attend safeguarding training.
Some placements may require you to work offsite (sometimes on a 1:1 basis) and travel in one of the hospice vehicles or a personal vehicle. If you prefer not to participate in this, please tick the box on the application form.
