The Virgin Money London Marathon is the largest annual one-day fundraising event on the planet – participants have raised more than £1 billion for good causes since the race began in 1981. The rescheduled 2020 Virgin Money London Marathon – The 40th Race – was due to take place on Sunday 4 October 2020, but Covid-19 has meant it has not been possible for it to go ahead in the way that it has every year since 1981.
However, to celebrate the spirit of the London Marathon there will be a virtual event for thousands of runners on Sunday 4 October 2020. The virtual 2020 Virgin Money London Marathon participants will have 23 hours 59 minutes and 59 seconds (from 00:00 to 23:59:59 BST) to complete the 26.2 miles, which they can choose to run, walk or jog – making the event the most inclusive London Marathon ever!
Taking part in the Virgin Money London Marathon, your way, also means participants can be creative with the challenge that lies ahead! Ideas include:
Being dropped 26.2 miles from home and running back to a hero’s welcome
Completing each mile with a different running buddy, sharing the challenge with friends and family
Getting together with a group of friends to walk the 26.2 miles together
Creating a unique course that visits the homes of friends and family so they can set up outdoor drinks stations for a refuel and catch-up over an energy bar
With loved ones and their community supporting them, participants will be joining thousands of runners in a celebration of everything the London Marathon embodies – fun, fundraising, fancy-dress and amazing community spirit.
Hospice and Rebecca House have been allocated places in the marathon, and you can get involved! Taking part is completely free, all we ask is that you pledge to raise just £250.
Everyone who takes part and completes the virtual marathon gets an official 2020 London Marathon medal and t-shirt!
