Birdsong Survey: A Thriving Team is the Cornerstone of Excellent Care

We are absolutely thrilled to share the fantastic results from the latest Hospice UK 'Birdsong' Survey, a high-quality benchmarked survey that provides invaluable feedback from our paid team members and volunteers.

Our results this year show significant progress, reflecting the satisfaction and commitment of our teams. We exceeded the national benchmark in 25 out of 46 questions for our staff survey and surpassed the benchmark in all 7 key questions indicating overall organisational health and culture.

Commitment and Purpose

The ultimate endorsement from the survey highlights a deep sense of commitment and pride within our team:

  • 99% of our paid team members are proud to work for us.
  • The top 'agree' response across all questions was, "I believe in the aims of this charity" (99% agreement).
  • 96% of our team members "enjoy the work I do".
  • 95% "feel like I am making a difference".

One team member shared the profound feeling: "I feel privileged to be able to help patients and families feel comfortable in the final stages of life... there is no better feeling than knowing you've done the absolute best to support the people around you."

Trusted and Valued

Our people’s belief in the way we're run was strongly confirmed, with responses to key leadership questions 15% above the national benchmark. Our 'People Management' scores were all higher than the national benchmark, showing our team is highly trusted, valued, and empowered:

  • 91% of paid team members feel trusted to do their job and make decisions.
  • Our volunteers feel equally empowered (93% feeling trusted).

Supporting Wellbeing

The survey results also confirm our supportive culture and focus on wellbeing. Our score for paid team members who "never get overwhelmed by work-related stress" was 16% above the national benchmark. This supportive environment helps our entire team thrive.

A thriving team is the cornerstone of excellent care. We are rightly proud of these results, and we thank all our team members for their dedication.
