Children's Hospice Week - Rainbow Room

During this Children’s Hospice Week, we’d like to share this heart-breaking story with you to shine a light on a room that we hope no one has to use but is there if needed; our Rainbow Room. The room provides a private, intimate and special place of rest for a child until their funeral. The room is open to any child, not just those of Rebecca House.

This story was shared with us anonymously. The photo captures the beloved storybook Guess How Much I Love You, which the family read to their son during precious moments spent together in our Rainbow Room.

“Last year, we found ourselves in a heart-breaking situation where we needed care and support that we hadn’t expected to need. Rebecca House stepped in and offered us the use of a special space, The Rainbow Room, something we hadn’t known existed, that allowed us precious extra time with our baby boy after he was born sleeping.

The team there treated us with such kindness. They were gentle and understanding, offering quiet support, comforting words, and small acts of care like making tea and simply being there for us and our family.

During our time there, we were able to create meaningful memories with our son. We sat in the garden with him, read him a story, and showed him the moon and stars. These moments are ones we’ll always treasure, and we’re deeply thankful we were given the chance to have them.

We’ll never forget the support we received. By sharing our experience, we hope others know that help is out there and that they don’t have to go through it alone.”

Thank you so much to the family for taking the time to share this with us.
