What began as a light-hearted conversation about bucket-list challenges has led to a new community fundraising initiative in support of Rebecca House.
Jump for Joy, a charity bungee jump taking place at the Southern District Agricultural Show this July, was inspired by a podcast interview between His Excellency, the Lieutenant Governor and local podcaster, Percy Hampton, host of ‘What’s the Skeet’.
While discussing things they had always wanted to try, the pair challenged each other to take on a bungee jump — and the idea quickly grew into something much bigger.
That challenge has now become a fundraising opportunity for Rebecca House, which provides respite, palliative and end of life care for children with life-limiting or life-threatening conditions from birth to 18 years.. All proceeds from the bungee jump will go directly to Rebecca House.
The initiative is being delivered in partnership with the Southern District Agricultural Society, with the bungee experience professionally supplied by UK Bungee Club, one of the UK’s most established and experienced bungee operators.
His Excellency the Lieutenant Governor has confirmed his support for Jump for Joy and will be taking part in the bungee jump during the Show, alongside Percy Hampton and other supporters, helping to shine a spotlight on the importance of community support for Rebecca House.
Vicky Wilson, Head of Children, Young People, In Patient Services and Therapies at Rebecca House said;
“What started as a fun conversation has turned into a wonderful example of community spirit. Every jump will help us continue providing care, comfort and support to children, young people and families across the Island, and we’re incredibly grateful to everyone who has helped bring Jump for Joy to life.”
The Southern District Agricultural Society welcomed the initiative, noting that it reflects the Show’s long-standing tradition of bringing people together while supporting local causes close to the community’s heart.
