So, J C. A charity single. We’ve heard it and absolutely love it. What’s the background?

J C Williams`

I’ve written 14 books mainly based on the Isle of Man. One of these is a three-book series called the Lonely Heart Attack Club. I’ve just published the third in the series. The stories centre on a failing coffee shop where the clientele have abandoned them for the larger coffee shop chains and they’re in real danger of going bankrupt. Their only remaining customers are the elderly client base who remain loyal throughout. Jack, the owner of the coffee shop soon comes to realise the stories behind the people he’s pretty much ignored over the previous few years and forms a strong bond with them and is eager to make their lives a little easier. So much so, with the help of his assistant Emma, he forms the Isle of Man’s first dating and social club for the elderly: The Lonely Heart Attack Club. The books are really funny but carry with them an underlying poignant theme, that tackles some very real problems faced by our elderly friends including being scammed, social isolation, depression and many others.

In the new book (without giving too much of the plot away J ) the gang set out to buy tablet computers for those who’d benefit from increased social interaction. They also set out to raise funds to purchase a bus to commute the group around their various social clubs. Unfortunately, things don’t go exactly to plan and result in the charity becoming in danger of losing all it has worked so hard to achieve.

Long story short, to rescue the situation, they release a charity single called, Florence’s Song. Florence is a lovely lady who recently lost her husband and is struggling to cope. With no friends or family to speak of, she starts to wish she could join her husband, having given up all hope. Fortunately, she’s introduced to the Lonely Heart Attack Club who welcome her in and offer her friendship and give her a reason to get up in the morning. The song is very emotive and written for people who may have gone through a trauma and cannot see light at the end of the tunnel. You might not always be able to see it, but there are people out there who want to listen and to, perhaps, hold your hand and make you smile.

Why Hospice, JC?

J C Williams

That’s an easy one, the work you do is humbling. We all know someone or have been through an event which calls upon the amazing work you do up here. I just want to be able to do something no matter how small to help raise awareness and hopefully get some money in the door for you. I also think the moral behind the books and the song resonates with the work you do. We all have difficult times in life but it’s about, hopefully, looking forward and finding a reason to press on.

Hospice
