Here at Hospice, our Board of Governors like to get involved where they can to gain a greater understanding of the different roles and responsibilities of our teams. Recently, Tim Shallcross spent time with our fantastic Facilities Team!
Here's what he said about his experience:
"Last week, as part of our ‘Board Hat’ activity, I spent a morning volunteering with the Facilities Team at Hospice Isle of Man.
As a Board Member and Governor, I believe it’s essential to spend time with the various teams across Hospice to truly appreciate the value each bring to the Charity and see first-hand the dedication that enables the delivery of outstanding end of life care.
The Facilities Team described their role perfectly: “If the lights are on, prescriptions are delivered, and the laundry is clean etc, then we’ve done our job.”
They are part of the many unsung and unseen heroes of Hospice, the team working quietly behind the scenes to ensure that our clinical staff can focus on providing the very best care for patients and families.
I spent my morning with John, who took me through a busy schedule of weekly vehicle checks, laundry runs, collecting and dropping prescriptions and bloods between the IPU and hospital, restocking supplies, visiting the bank, collecting new keys, and even completing a loft walk to make sure everything was as it should be!
The morning ended with a well-deserved (and delicious!) lunch at Elaine’s Café, which was so popular there was even a queue for seats.
My biggest takeaway? Every role within Hospice, seen or unseen, plays a vital part in achieving our mission. Together, we’re working towards raising £7.1 million each year to continue providing the highest standard of care and support for our community.
To everyone who keeps the Hospice running - thank you."
