National Volunteering Week - Clive Bush

Our next wonderful volunteer who we would like to introduce you to during National Volunteers Week, is Clive Bush.

We'd love to say a huge thank you to Clive and all of our volunteers for their invaluable support - we couldn't do what we do without them.

"My name is Clive Bush. I’m seventy-two and I’ve been retired for three years having worked for 35 years at B&B Furniture.

Having had a year of retirement I decided I wasn’t ready for that yet and went to work for Road Safety for a further four years teaching year 5 and year 6 children cycling and infant school children road safety skills. I was also involved in various Road Safety initiatives.

I’m married to Jacqueline (who works in the Ramsey Hospice Shop) and have two sons Stephen and Stuart (who are both committed to raising funds for Rebecca House Children’s Hospice) and have five grandchildren.

I currently volunteer for Hospice driving for the Day unit and the FAB clinic. I also help out in the garden, currently trying to restore the Pavia paths to make them safe again.

My Father received amazing end of life care at the Warwick Hospice and the way we were looked after by the staff and volunteers gave us a lot of comfort so my wife, sons and I were only too happy to try and help out on the Island.

It’s been great to have the chance to contribute in a small way and have been made to feel welcome by everyone from the start.

All the staff are very professional and compassionate and everyone seems to gel, staff and volunteers, making a great environment for the patients.

I like to spend time with the patients in the Day centre when I can, enjoying a chat and getting involved in the activities. The staff in there are brilliant, as throughout the whole of Hospice."
