Over the last few weeks of summer, 36 Zurich staff and interns spent 171 hours in the Hospice garden undertaking many long overdue tasks that our estates team have struggled to find the time to do. The time-consuming tasks included jet washing and varnishing/painting the wooden benches, potting shed and pergola.
As one of the enormously generous contributors to the Hospice polytunnel and cabin project, they also got involved in preparing for the start of construction, which included removing hedges and digging out the paving in preparation for disabled access to the area. The value of their contribution in saving our small team hundreds of hours can't be calculated, but in financial terms, their energetic and passionate volunteers saved Hospice the equivalent of over £2,000 in wages, and paved the way for the project team to begin work on the polytunnel!
